Friends Build Community Center in Franklin to Honor Young Man Who Built them Up

Ty Us 2Gether Event On Aug. 11 Memorializes The Life of Ty Osman II

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Aug. 2, 2012 – Ty Osman II, or Ty2 as his family called him, never did anything halfway. Not just in academics and athletics, where his unwillingness to give up enabled him to excel, but also in his interactions with people. He went the second, third and fourth mile to help others see the joy he saw in simply being alive.

Like his father, Ty Osman, who is co-owner of Solomon Builders, Ty2 was a builder – but he built people.

Ty’s unswerving concern for others tragically led to his death at only 18 years old this past March. While traveling in a two-car caravan with friends, another driver rear-ended the vehicle his friends were traveling in. Ty stopped his car and jumped out to check on them.  While re-entering his truck he was hit.

On Saturday, Aug. 11, scores – even hundreds – of Ty2’s friends are going to honor this builder of people by building a community center for the Hard Bargain neighborhood in Franklin. The transformation of the former caretaker’s cottage at Mt. Hope Cemetery into a thriving Community Center for the Hard Bargain neighborhood will begin at 8:30 a.m. at 600 Mt. Hope Street in Franklin.

The project is underwritten by the Ty2 Foundation and Solomon Builders, which are providing free lunch, dinner and a t-shirt to all participants. The day will end with a concert by Christian/pop recording artist Ronnie Freeman. Solomon Builders and many of its sub-contractors have already the donated time and materials needed to prepare the former cottage for the Aug. 11 renovation event.

“After Ty died, many of his friends said that they wanted to do something in his honor,” said Ty’s father, Ty Osman. “They wanted it to be something that helped others, because helping others really defined Ty. This project, which we are calling Ty Us2Gether, was created in response to this unstoppable outpouring of love for our son.”

Everyone is invited to participate in Ty Us 2Gether, Osman said, “because you don’t need to have known Ty to know the value of doing something to make the world a better place.”
